Kids U - Summer 2022: Literacy Academy Camp Events

Each day the poets-in-training will investigate the vast universe of poetry through children’s literature. After each investigation, the poets will create their own poetry piece with illustrations. At the end of the camp, the authors will have a finished book of their poetry.

Join us as we explore reading in a whole new way! We will use our brains and reading skills to accomplish great tasks and read exciting stories and poems that all demonstrate how people can overcome great obstacles and challenges in the spirit of adventure. You will also get an opportunity to try writing an adventure story of your own!

As you delve into your own identities, you will choose from a variety of options to create a work of art that shows the world who you are. Each day will end with a dedicated time to write and reflect about the things that make you unique.

Come and be the creator of your favorite game based on a book of your choice! Take a journey through your favorite book and transform it into a board game! You will choose your characters, design your board, and create obstacles and other fun activities according to what happens in your favorite book! Come and discover how to take the joy of reading to another level as well as your creativity!

Come and discover the secrets found in the garden of great books! Join us in this hands-on session where students will create a variety of books modeled after some of the best writers of our time. Each day will consist of whole class reading, discussion, pre-writing, and the creation of a book by each child.

Learn how to notice things around you and develop your creative, descriptive vocabularies, jot down your memories and observations, and use those notes to write your own book. Join the ranks of bona fide authors by starting your own writer's notebook including a personal vocabulary wall.
