Becoming an Outdoors Girl 2024

We want to provide this opportunity to as many girls as possible. To ensure fairness, please register for only one session (date). If you need to transfer your registration to another session, we will gladly process the transfer if space is available.

Welcome to the outdoors! We offer the opportunity for girls to learn new skills associated with outdoor activities in a safe environment. Participants must be currently attending grades 6 through 12 or homeschool equivalent. All activities are outside.

To register, create an account and add your child(ren) as an additional registrant(s) under "My Account" before signing up for a session. Parents will receive an information packet with release forms via email before the session; these forms must be submitted at check-in.

Please only register for one Becoming an Outdoors Girl session, as multiple registrations will be deleted. If you need to transfer your registration to another date, email Debbie Bush at bush@uhcl.edu, and the transfer will be processed, provided the session is not full.

2025 Surface Water Quality Monitoring Training Events

Partial Course: Water Quality & Hydrological Monitoring (Day 1)

The partial course consists of one day of training on water quality and hydrology monitoring. This partial course can serve as the required biennial Clean Rivers Program training for monitoring partners. This course will include classroom and field-based instruction designed to explain the theory and methodology of SWQM procedures with a hands-on component in local streams and bayous. One (1) Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is available for the partial course upon request.


Overview

The Environmental Institute of Houston and the Houston-Galveston Area Council are collaborating to offer a two-part course on surface water assessments. Guided by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s Surface Water Quality Monitoring (SWQM) guidelines, this course combines classroom learning with field-based instruction.

The courses will be held at the University of Houston-Clear Lake campus, utilizing the Environmental Institute of Houston’s training facilities. Participants will gain practical experience using state-of-the-art sampling equipment through field practice in local waterways. The trainers bring extensive field experience, having worked with both Environmental Protection Agency and TCEQ standard procedures. Course attendees will be provided all necessary reference materials and will receive a certificate of completion upon finishing the course.

Regular Registration: Feb 11 – Mar 2
Cost: $300
