Fall 2022 - Drone Academy

Basic Drone Operator is a 2 Day In-Person Training Workshop scheduled Friday, December 9 and Saturday, December 10 both days are 8:30 AM-5:00 PM. This workshop has TWO Main Areas: Basic sUAS Flight Training and Part 107 Drone Pilot Test Prep

Basic sUAS Flight Training is In-Person Drone Pilot Training that covers the Drone Revolution - What you can do with an unmanned aircraft. Industries that use Drones and their applications. Drone Markets, Drone Basics - Platforms & Components. System Set up - Connecting & Updating Your Drone, getting to know Flight Display, Flight walkthrough, Preparing for your first Flight. Autonomous Flight. Advanced Settings. Mission Specific Settings. Students are provided with a Basic Flight Training workbook to help guide and reinforce topics discussed.

Part 107 Drone Pilot Test Prep is In-Person and Online Part 107 Drone Pilot Test Prep -This training is designed to give you everything you need to pass the Part 107 Drone License exam. Course materials includes: 1) FAA regulations; 2) US Airspace System; 3) Sectional charts; 4) Airport operations; and Access to full online Part 107 Test prep and student guide. Students are provided with a Part 107 Drone Pilot Test Prep Training workbook to help guide and reinforce topics discussed and online access to videos and quizzes for practice. To sit for the Part 107 Pilot exam, you must be at least 16 years old.

Note: Space is limited. The Academy fees must be paid within 48 hours of registration. Students with an Unpaid Invoice Status will not have a reserved seat and will lose their spot to students on our waitlist. Only Paid Invoice Status are guaranteed enrollment. The Drones used during each training workshop will be provided by the Instructors of the Academy.

Public Safety and Emergency Response is a 2 Day In-Person Intensive Training Workshop scheduled Friday, December 16 and Saturday, December 17 both days are 8:30 AM-5:00 PM. This workshop provides the fundamentals and applications of Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (a.k.a. drones) in Public Safety & Emergency Response. Learn the fundamentals required to integrate sUAS into public safety operations. Topics include identifying components for a UAS aviation unit for public safety entities, identifying specific agency requirements, and assessing the cost benefit of UAS integration. The course reviews regulatory compliance, certificates of authorization, the role of the community, operator selection, and standard operating procedures.

In this hands-on In-Person training students will: Identify 3D Mapping software applications for crime and accident scene documentation and enhanced investigations. Learn the use of its magnification, thermal imagery and use of infrared cameras. Incident investigation and documentation using drones. Drone used to fly overhead to take photos and videos of the site. Using photogrammetry technology to construct a 3D model of the investigation scene for measurements and analyses. The use of drone’s optical sensors with GPS receiver to track subjects and use in surveillance. Understanding FPV flight. Identifying Systemic hazards. Review flight techniques, pre-flight checklists, and emergency procedures. Lessons include interpreting standard weather reports (METARs) and forecasts (TAFs) that airport facilities broadcast for safe drone flights under weather conditions. The fieldwork focuses on providing real-world experience of the deployment of drones in Law Enforcement by running scenarios of incidents of different types Outdoor Field Scenarios include: Search & Rescue, Crash data collection and investigation, Barricaded Gunman, and Real-World Disaster Response UAV Operations.

This course is best suited for those who:
Are current first responders looking to get commercially licensed to fly a drone
Public Safety community including; firefighters, police, paramedics, doctors, coast-guards, SAR volunteers.

The fieldwork part focuses on providing real-world experience of the deployment of drones in Law Enforcement by running scenarios of incidents of different types Outdoor Field Scenarios include: Search & Rescue, Crash data collection and investigation, Barricaded Gunman, and Real-World Disaster Response UAV Operations.

This is an advanced training workshop course. To attend this workshop, we require students to understand how to safely fly and operate a drone. Students attending Public Safety and Emergency Response workshop should be Part 107 certified. This workshop does not teach you how to fly or operate a drone.
